Lewis Group Debt Collectors and the Truth About Your Debt

You may call into question the validity of the money owed by making a SAR (or Subject Access Request) in response to Lewis Group debt collectors. The owner of the alleged debt (the bank or the debt collecting firm) is obliged to send you a true signed copy of your original credit agreement if the agreement was made prior to 6th April 2007. When they fail to do this they are in violation of the Consumer Credit Act 1974, and the debt is said to be in dispute. For as long as this situation exists they are not allowed to make further demands on you and they are not allowed to sell it on (which many do anyway). For as long as the alleged debt is in dispute it cannot be enforced, even by a judge.. Or you can get a lawyer to help you, because it can be a bit of a strain. There are also specialist legal firms professing services in this field.

There are several good consumer finance forums where you may read all about the tactics implicating Lewis Group debt collectors and their various tricks. Notice how some of the DCAs specialise in some types of activity while others choose a different line and use different tactics. The result is always suffering and distress for people. These debt collecting companies are sometimes members of plausible trade bodies which appears to legitimize their illicit activities. In truth they are more like the con-men who send junk mail to you telling you that you have won first prize in the lottery even though you have never entered one.

Always deal with these debt collecting companies by letter. Never give out your telephone number. The problem is that at first, when your defences are down, they'll tell you that they are the bank or credit card company and so you will feel obliged to comply. Your uncertainty is important to them, so they seek to create as much uncertainty as they can: here Lewis Group debt collectors will have the best result. As soon as they get hold of your personal details they will use it to pester you, even to frighten you. You may use the law to stop them but the problem is that most people don't know which laws to use and it is all too apparent these debt collection firms use it to their advantage. Public bodies such as the excellent Consumer Credit Counselling Service or the Citizen's Advice Bureau give a good free service but sometimes they are stretched to bursting and there are times when such advice does not provide the whole picture.

Certainly, some debt purchasers (or DPCs) are far worse than the rest. Perhaps the worst debt collectors have a line in sending out speculative correspondence about hypothetical debt to people saying that they owe money knowing that they owe nothing to anybody. This works well for the debt collecting agencies for the reason that they are very well aware that some folk will succumb even though they realize full well they owe no money to anybody. The least honest of the debt collecting agencies purchase information about lists of delinquent debts which are often more than six years out of date and try to profit from these. This is totally against the law. These are Statute Barred debts, and they cannot be legally enforced.

So ask Lewis Group Debt Collectors for a copy of the original contract when you took out your loan or credit card.

Even better, start an unenforceable credit agreement application here. If you want to check, in addition, missold PPI and recover all the credit card charges you've paid over the last 6 years (plus 8% interest) it costs an upfront fee of only £99 for a full audit to see what you're entitled to. Click here for more.

To find out if you qualify for an IVA or can benefit from a debt management programme, try the IVA Test. It's free to apply, and again you are protected by the consumer laws regarding debt management at all stages. Click here to go to the application form.
